Repair a defective asset

Send a defective asset for repair with a Repair transaction, then bring it back and decide whether it is reusable. A repair needs no separate approval, but the repairer must acknowledge receipt before it completes.

Before you start

To prepare, release or acknowledge a repair you need to be a Dedicated IT Warehouse Administrator or CDI Staff, Asset and Logistics Associate, IT Hardware Inventory Supervisor, or IT Business Systems or Application Team.
The IT Warehouse Technical Team records the technical result when the asset comes back, on Preparation and Returns.
The asset must be recorded at the location or with the custodian you send it from.

Steps

Start a repair

In the sidebar, under Movement and Transfer, select Asset Transactions, then New transaction. Under What kind of movement, choose Repair. The note reads Needs no separate approval. The destination must acknowledge receipt before it completes.

Say where it goes for repair

Choose the From location or From custodian that holds it now. Choose the To custodian or To location of the repairer. For an outside repairer, use Destination note. Describe the fault in Purpose, then select Prepare.

Add the asset and submit

In What moves, select Add and select the asset. Then select Submit. Because a repair needs no approval, it goes straight to Approved.

Release it to the repairer

Select Release, fill in Carrier or recipient, and select Confirm release. The asset is in transit until the repairer acknowledges it.

Have the repairer acknowledge it

The receiving side opens the repair, selects Acknowledge receipt, and selects Record receipt. The asset is now recorded as In Repair.

Bring it back and check it

When the repair is done, bring the asset back to the warehouse with a Return transaction. Then, under Warehouse Operations, select Preparation and Returns, choose Open a preparation, and set Why is it being prepared? to Back from repair. The technical result and the Conclude outcome decide whether it is Deployment ready, still Needs repair, or goes For retirement.
